The invisible war: against the environment (Part One)

by admin on , under Aviation, Communications, History, Religion, Uncategorized

How many wars have faced human beings in history? Can not find an answer. From the first fratricide recorded in a written document (the killing of Abel by Cain) rivers of blood have run around the world because of wars in which the flags are hoisted normally the highest moral principles and civil rights and patriotic .

In some battles, perhaps the most horrifying of all, invoking the name of God, or in any case of religion (one of the slogans of the Crusaders in the so called holy wars was vult Deus: God willing), so that an army across to another with the inevitable death toll and destruction.

It is very difficult to find statistics of the worst invention of mankind. When there is a war no one is counting the dead static and calculate the damage.

Some, however, dare to make estimates and, in the case of the First World War to establish several sources agree in forty million people the number of casualties that had all the opposing armies: they include in their accounts the dead, the wounded , prisoners and missing.

It is obviously a scary number when taking into account that in the days when this conflict The World at War was military technology (ie, the industry of death) did not have the development that currently has, hardly aviation loomed as a weapon of destruction, the communications do not have the same reach and, in general, conventional fighters in arms.

Has occurred in the days of the Cold War and its effects in our time have not only devastating but surely apocalyptic and the human species could not survive the use of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. The war, no doubt is synonymous with barbarism and brutality, as Oscar Wilde said that a man should die for a cause, does not mean anything about the value of that cause. It is better to be criticized peace more than the most praised of the wars: The difference between one state and another is remarkable. Herodotus, for example, said that in peace the children bring their parents to the grave in the war are the parents who bring children to the grave.

Apart from the above is important to say that there is an invisible war whose results are more deaths, destruction and suffering that the roar of the guns or the deafening noise of criminal attacks: it is the steady deterioration of the environment.

World leaders are taking too long to realize that the enemy, the real opponent is not an opposing army or terrorist group but soil depletion, desertification, loss of water sources, global warming, the rupture of the layer ozone and loss of biodiversity. The atmosphere and climate bear the consequences caused by the considerable alteration of the concentration levels of greenhouse gases and global warming of the earth.
