Security Camera Systems – Considering PC vs. DVR

Well it has been several months now that I’ve been mulling over my decision as to whether or not to get PC based security camera systems or a stand alone DVR based security camera system. It is a tough call, with pros and cons on each side. On the one hand a stand alone DVR is cheaper, and a small easy to maintain device. There is really nothing to install, and not much that can go wrong other than a hardware failure. Those are rare, but they of course do happen. On the other hand a PC based system is a more expensive/complex device, but it also offers much more flexibility and a better software experience. PCs of course can be susceptible to viruses and can be more difficult to maintain. So my internal debate continues, so far I hope I can afford to go the PC route, for a little extra money I can get so much more.
