Amazon’s Kindle reader launched as recently as November 2007, a little less than four years ago. It has certainly come a long way in a short time, and Amazon could justifiably claim to have been a major influence in the growth and development of the ebook reader market. It’s currently the best selling product on Amazon’s website, and has earned Amazon huge amounts of revenue. Both the reader itself and the ebooks that go with it have brought in millions, if not billions for Amazon. And don’t forget about all the various Kindle accessories as well – covers, lights, cases, extra chargers etc. The Kindle is a big earner, whatever way you look at it.
It’s estimated that the Kindle, along with the various products related to it, will account for more than 10% of Amazon’s income by 2012. It’s an incredibly important product line for Amazon and is currently fuelling the profitability and growth of the company. It’s no wonder that Amazon intend to release a tablet computer later this year.
